What you should know about Internet fraud

Consumers fall victim to Internet fraud every day. Here's some information we think you should know.

Recently, there has been an increase in incidents of Internet fraud, and many of these scams are being aimed at banking customers. Fraudulent emails claiming to be from financial institutions and other companies are being sent to customers with links to fake web sites. These web sites resemble the companies' authentic sites perfectly. The fraudulent website then requires the customer to provide personal information such as account numbers, ATM PINs or passwords.

Because of the breadth and global nature of the Internet, fraud of this type is difficult to control. But, you can take measures against it. Protect yourself by never responding to any emails claiming to be from a financial institution if they request your account number, PIN, password, mother's maiden name or any other private information. No bank would request that you email any personal information of this nature.

If you receive any unsolicited emails or phone calls claiming to be from a financial institution asking for personal information, do not respond. By staying alert and taking a few precautions, you can play a role in helping prevent identity theft.

If you suspect that you have received a fraudulent email from us, call our Security Officer at 216-359-5500.
